After more than a decade of waiting, two delays and record-breaking trailers, Grand Theft Auto VI is finally just days away. Here is every fact Rockstar Games has confirmed, plus the reports worth knowing, clearly labelled.
Key Facts
- Release date: Thursday, November 19, 2026
- Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (no PC version announced)
- Price (US): $79.99 Standard Edition, $99.99 Ultimate Edition
- Pre-load: from November 10 for digital pre-orders, up to 212 GB
- Setting: the state of Leonida, home to Vice City
- Protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos
Release date: November 19, 2026
The first trailer in December 2023 promised a 2025 release. In May 2025 Rockstar moved the game to May 26, 2026, and in November 2025 it moved again to Thursday, November 19, 2026, apologising for the wait and saying the extra months were needed to finish the game with the level of polish players expect.
Take-Two has repeated the November date in every earnings update since, and with pre-loads scheduled for November 10, the date is now locked in.
Platforms and performance
GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version. GamesBeat reported in October 2026 that a PC release is planned for the first quarter of 2027, but that is not confirmed.
In interviews, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said current builds target 30 frames per second on consoles. A 60 fps performance mode has not been confirmed, and PS5 Pro enhancements have not been detailed yet.
Price and editions
Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. In the US the Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99. The Ultimate Edition adds extra vehicles, weapons, outfits and in-world businesses. Pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack, a nod to 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Physical copies are code-in-box versions that download the game rather than installing it from a disc. Retailers can sell them from November 12.
Pro Tip
Read our Standard vs Ultimate guide before you upgrade, and our pre-load guide to get the 212 GB download done before launch night.
Story and characters
GTA 6 follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a criminal couple whose story Rockstar has compared to Bonnie and Clyde. After a heist goes wrong, the pair are pulled into a conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida. Lucia is the series’ first female lead since the 3D era began.
Supporting cast
Rockstar’s character profiles also introduce Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, rap duo Real Dimez, bank robber Raul Bautista and Keys drug runner Brian Heder. Meet them all in our character guide.
Setting: the state of Leonida
Leonida is Rockstar’s take on Florida. Alongside Vice City, regions shown so far include the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. The map is reportedly around three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2’s playable area.
Online and microtransactions
GTA 6 launches as a single-player game. Coverage of the August 2026 Netflix Extended Look reported that the single-player game will have no microtransactions at launch. Rockstar has not announced a date for an online mode. In September 2026 Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said multiplayer would launch in 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed that.
Warning
Expect a flood of fake “leaked” dates, PC builds and free download links around launch. Anything not on Rockstar’s official channels should be treated as unconfirmed, and never download the game from unofficial sites.
