Digital pre-orders of GTA 6 can be downloaded from November 10, nine days before launch. The download is up to 212 GB, so preparing now means you can play the moment it unlocks.
Key Facts
- PS5 pre-load: November 10, midnight local time
- Xbox pre-load: November 10, 12 a.m. GMT
- Space needed: up to 212 GB
Step 1: Free up space
- Check your free space. PS5: Settings → Storage. Xbox: Settings → System → Storage devices.
- Delete games you have finished. Your save data is kept in the cloud or on the console, so you can reinstall later.
- Move older games to a USB drive. Both consoles can store current-gen games on external USB drives, but they must be moved back to internal storage (or an M.2 SSD on PS5, or an expansion card on Xbox) to play.
Pro Tip
GTA 6 must be installed on the internal drive, a PS5 M.2 SSD or an Xbox expansion card, so clear space there first.
Step 2: Pre-load on PS5
- Turn on auto-downloads: Settings → Saved Data and App/Game Settings → Automatic Updates → Auto-Download.
- Let it download in rest mode: Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode → Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Or start it manually from your Game Library after midnight on November 10.
Step 3: Pre-load on Xbox Series X|S
- Go to My games & apps → Full library → All owned games.
- Select Grand Theft Auto VI and choose Install once the pre-load opens.
- Use Energy-saving or Sleep mode settings that allow downloads overnight.
Warning
Pre-loading is only available for digital pre-orders. Physical code-in-box copies can be redeemed and downloaded from November 12.
