Rockstar Games has confirmed when you can start downloading Grand Theft Auto VI ahead of its November 19 launch, and how much space it needs. If you pre-ordered a digital copy, you can pre-load nine days early.
Key Facts
- PS5: Tuesday, November 10 at midnight local time
- Xbox Series X|S: Tuesday, November 10 at 12 a.m. GMT worldwide (4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET on November 9)
- Download size: up to 212 GB, depending on your console
- Who can pre-load: digital pre-orders only
PlayStation 5 pre-load time
On PS5, pre-loading opens at midnight in your own time zone on November 10, so players in different regions start at different moments.
Xbox Series X|S pre-load time
On Xbox the pre-load opens at the same moment worldwide: 12 a.m. GMT on November 10. In North America that means the evening of Monday, November 9.
File size: up to 212 GB
Rockstar says the download will be up to 212 GB depending on your device. That is a big chunk of a standard PS5 or Xbox Series X drive, and more than half of a 512 GB Xbox Series S.
Pro Tip
Delete or move older games now rather than on launch night. Our step-by-step pre-load guide explains how to free up space on both consoles.
What about physical copies?
The boxed versions are code-in-box editions, so they also download the game. Retailers can sell them from November 12, giving physical buyers a week to get the download done.
When does it unlock?
Rockstar has not yet announced the exact unlock hour on November 19. We will update this article as soon as it does.
