Rockstar’s Netflix Extended Look and the hands-on previews that followed gave us our clearest picture of how GTA 6 plays. Here are the key systems.

Wanted level: up to six stars

Police attention now goes up to six stars instead of five. Expect higher levels to bring heavier, faster responses.

Criminal Profile

A Criminal Profile tracks your reputation over time, much like Red Dead Redemption 2’s honour system, and appears to record choices such as how you treat people and animals.

Weapon loadouts

You can carry two primary weapons and two sidearms. Everything else is stored in your vehicle, so where you park matters before a fight.

Pro Tip

Treat your car as your armoury. Before a mission, swap your loadout at the trunk to suit the job.

Switching between Jason and Lucia

Swapping is instant when the pair are together and takes a few seconds when they are apart. Rockstar says their relationship is central to the story.

Combat

Gunplay has been reworked, with a slow-motion aiming mode reminiscent of Red Dead’s Dead Eye.

Activities

  • Track races and street driving
  • Jet skis, boats and airboats
  • Scuba diving
  • Weight lifting and fitness
  • Snapmatic photos and social media
